Introduction

Río Hato is the ultimate paradise for beach lovers

The region’s rich history, spanning from colonial times, is intricately tied to its expansive savannahs, which have been a vital hub for livestock farming. The name of this district is said to have its origins in the colonial era when the region was dedicated to raising livestock, known back then as a “hato” (herd). The proximity of the rivers led to the region being named “Río del Hato” (River of the Herd), which was later shortened to the vibrant and evocative Río Hato.

Río Hato is a paradise with its white sand beaches and clear waters such as Chumico Redondo, Farallón, Playa Blanca, Santa Clara, Sea Cliff, Playa La Pacora, and Playa La Boca are just a few of the jewels in this area. They are like a magnet for tourists looking for rest and recreation. The region has recently seen huge investments in beach hotels, making it the perfect place to stay while exploring everything this beautiful area has to offer. Also known as the Pearl of the Pacific, this stunning region stretches from Punta Chame to Farallón.

Río Hato’s strategic location made it the perfect choice for the construction of the first international airport in the interior of the country. This airport, known as Aeropuerto Internacional Scarlett Martínez, was developed using the runway built by the US army during World War II, which is really exciting because it means the airport has a rich history!
