Whenever you come to Chiriquí, consider the following important rules:

1. Playa Las Lajas, Chiriquí
The 14-kilometer-long, wide sandy beach is one of the longest continuous beaches in Central America and offers you an exhilarating wave bath in the warm Pacific on many days. It is not uncommon to have the feeling that you are the only vacationers in Panama, because at times the beach is deserted and belongs to you alone.
The special thing about this beach are the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, which you can only experience on a few beaches in the world in one day. Pelicans, parrots, iguanas and even turtles can often be found here and so a chilly beach day sometimes becomes a real nature experience. If you want to, you can walk for miles on this beach or just relax in the sun.
2. Jardin Botanico Lajas Adentro
In the Lajas Adentro Botanical Garden, visitors can observe different species of butterflies. Be sure to drive to El Nancito in the beautiful Chiriquí region. There is an exciting archaeological park here – the Petroglifo El Nancito, where you can walk through the archeological findings of the region. Here you will learn all about the indigenous people of Central America and have spectacular views of the breathtaking landscape, coastline, islands and open sea. It is the largest park in eastern Chiriquí, where you can find representative petroglyphs from Panama’s past, located about 200 meters above sea level and scattered throughout the area on volcanic rocks.

In total, Marina Chiriquí National Park includes 25 islands and 19 beautiful coral reefs. Of course you will also find tropical palm trees and beautiful beaches. Howler monkeys, tiger herons, green iguanas and many other animal species are at home on the islands. The turquoise waters around the islands are home to intact reefs and a variety of fish. Perfect snorkeling and diving sites are located between the islands and in numerous quiet bays. Marina Park is also home to other impressive marine life such as hawksbill turtles, leatherback turtles, hammerhead sharks, whitetip reef sharks, manta rays and dolphins. Bull whales calve just off the coast from August to November, displaying their breathtaking size and beauty.
From Boca Chica, a small fishing village on the mainland, a boat will take you to the often deserted island paradises. In Boca Chica several rivers flow into the sea and form a labyrinth of mangrove forests. In the mangroves you can observe birds and reptiles during a kayak trip. On the other side of the bay of Boca Chica is Boca Brava, a large island with great biodiversity, many hiking trails and white sandy beaches. Some of the most beautiful islands in the park are further out. These include the islands of San José, Bolaños, Gámez and Parida. Most of these islands can be reached by boat in just one hour. Some of the most remote islands, such as Secas and Los Ladrones, are surrounded by crystal clear waters. Deep sea fishing is also very popular in this region and is offered by some travel agencies.
